I was asked about using channels in Adsense so I made a video. You can download it from the training video section at top right of the nav bar. The video is called ‘Set up Adsense URL Channels’ it runs for about 6 minutes and covers setting up a URL channel in Adsense so that you can track how well a page or site is doing with Adsense. With channels you can look at page impressions, clicks, page CTR, page earnings per thousand impressions and earnings so they are a useful tool.
I will probably do a set of vids on using Custom Channels later on. Custom channels are more flexible and give greater detail than URL channels and are great for comparison testing of layouts, colours etc.
I just came across (and bought) a new piece of Content rewriting software, called Content Spooler, that can really help users of LAMMS and that when we get to BAMMs will be an absolute Godsend.
Anyone who knows me knows that I think very, very little of most content rewriters, article spinners or as I prefer to call them ‘content manglers’. They either take longer to use than it takes to manually rewrite an article and/or produce output that is a steaming pile of cow poo.
But there is one strategy that, if implemented well, can be very good. It is simple matrix substitution, but the problem is that it takes time to set up.
Anyhoo, I found what seems to be an excellent implementation of matrix substitution, simple and very effective. Rather than try to explain, just have a look at the video here: http://www.contentspooler.com (no affiliate program)
If you like what you see then buy it before the price goes up. I paid $30. Price is now $47. Whilst I don’t much like it when producers of products go round raising prices as a marketing tactic maybe it is worth being quick with investigating my recommends.
When I looked at the video, all of a sudden I could see visions of multiple blogs each carrying unique content, but all focussed upon the same or complementary niches.
When I have finished building a blog (LAMM) then I always tell the world that it exists. The first thing is to make sure that there is a decent ping list installed in the blog’s Options/Write page. That way every time a new post appears on the blog then a host of search engines and feed services know about it - instantly. Hopefully this will keep bringing the search engine spiders back, like banging on a plate at the kitchen door to tell family that supper is ready!
But that is just the start, we need to get real readers to the site so the second thing I do is to announce the Rss feed to a host of directories and search sites. Many people use Rss feeds as much as, or more than, search engines and ordinary websites. Rss feeds give them direct access to the content they are interested in. In addition, the search engines get what they want: fresh content, continually updated.
My personal strategy is to announce my site’s feeds on a monthly basis. I used to use Rss Announcer but that is no longer updated and is becoming useless. A couple of months ago I bought a copy of Rss Feed Submit. Its main advantage is that it has a large database that IS updated with new sites. On the downside, it does not have the facilty that Rss Announcer had to deal with a list of feeds one after the other. But I found that by opening multiple instances of the program I could announce many feeds at once. The program is fast and bulletproof. For ongoing promotion of blogs I think it is well worth a look.
There is a trial version, I bought the full Rss Feed Submit program within minutes of downloading the trial!
I have been asked a few times about how to set up WordPress and cron jobs. As a result I have now uploaded to the a couple of training videos for you to download. They are only short but they give step by step instructions as to how to set up WordPress and corn jobs on hosts that use Cpanel.
Cpanel is the same kind of hosting that Hostgator provides.
There will be more videos available in the future.
In the ‘more from the good news department’ we are just testing out a brand new WordPress plugin that I have had written. It is not going to be free, but all LAMMS users will get a copy for use in their LAMMS and other blogs. This new tool allows users to remove posts and pages from their blogs either one at a time, all of them at once, or choose which to remove. I don’t know of another tool that does all this and its is FREE to LAMMS users.
What you say and all for just $35 for a lovely new money maker? How can he do it?
Buy a LAMM and find out!
I want to include datafeeds into automated blogs, but the task is proving harder than I expected. I first used a datafeed script some months ago but it is not suitable for use with automated blogs. A few days ago I bought another, sadly it did not live up to its billing. A big disappointment given that the vendor is one of the big names in auto-blogging circles. Sadly I am also still awaiting my refund, even though it had been promised immediately.
But, on the good news front, I am hoping to be able to have a new product designed incorporating my specs. It will not be an exclusive, but it will have my ideas in it and it WILL work well. So, early in 2007 look out for it. I will be planning to offer datafeeds as a LAMM option and also the full software package for purchase to this who are confident with the process and who are running more than oneor two LAMMS.
So, apologies to those to whom I had hoped to offer some trial feeds, I am at least as disappointed as you guys!
We will come back to this topic again, but for now, to get started, I can offer this:
In the same way that the LAMM is a highly systematised type of site, so we need to systematise the site’s promotion. So far the best single source I have come across that deals with site promotion in a systematic form is this: http://www.suggestedby.us/monetizesitesvideos
This is a video record of the process of setting up, monetising and promoting a website. The techniques used are easily copied and are designed to be set up as an ongoing system. The only downside is that some of this stuff gets a tad repetitive, but there are ways of automating at least part of it - blogs are quite amenable to systematised promotion (IMHO). Even if one did not do everything the same, the ideas of setting up promotion/marketing as a process is very good.
Currently J-P Schoeffel, the guy who made the videos is selling access to them for $27, apparently he is going to increase the price. He did incease the price, it is now a not inconsiderable $97 IMHO the information, if used, will earn much more than the cost of the videos, but it is a chunk of change!
Whether you pay the money to look, or not. I will be working to outline a viable promotion system for automated blogs in the near future. J-Ps ideas, being similar to mine will form some part of that system.
