Check Your Blog’s Comments!
The comments on your WordPress blog are the main means by which users can interact with the site and you, the owner. It is not just a case of setting SpamKarma at it’s most sensitive, or turning off comments entirely.
Every genuine comment is worth reading and maybe responding to. Each comment gives us unique content for our sites, stuff that we did not have to write or pay for. Each comment is giving us an insight into what our readers like/dislike, want to see, or not to see. Sometimes comments are a warning that something is going wrong with our blogs.
For all the reasons above we should monitor our site’s comments. If one has dozens of sites though then monitoring them becomes a challenge; hundreds or thousands of pages all needing to be checked. Simply not practical.
Fortunately WordPress has a solution!
It is possible to subscribe to an Rss feed that carries only the comments on each site. The format is dead easy:
http://mydomain.com/comments/feed
or
http://mydomain.com/?feed=comments-rss2
If one does not work then the other should.
I’d suggest subscribing to the comment feed for every blog that you have and checking the feeds in your feed reader every day. If there is something that needs your attention then you can simply click on the link in the feed to go straight to the relevant comment page.
If you do not currently read Rss feeds then I’d suggest taking a look at Google’s feed reader: http://www.google.com/reader/ Free and easy to use.
Whilst we are on the subject, it is a good idea to subscribe to this site’s feed. That way you can keep up to date with develpoments in the automated blogs as well as new resources and Wordpress training material that comes along. The feed for this site is: http://littleautomaticmoneymaker.com/feed or you can subscribe through one of the feed buttons in the sidebars.
