Promote My Blog's RSS Feed – How to do it?
When I have finished building a blog (LAMM) then I always tell the world that it exists. The first thing is to make sure that there is a decent ping list installed in the blog's Options/Write page. That way every time a new post appears on the blog then a host of search engines and feed services know about it – instantly. Hopefully this will keep bringing the search engine spiders back, like banging on a plate at the kitchen door to tell family that supper is ready!
But that is just the start, we need to get real readers to the site so the second thing I do is to announce the Rss feed to a host of directories and search sites. Many people use Rss feeds as much as, or more than, search engines and ordinary websites. Rss feeds give them direct access to the content they are interested in. In addition, the search engines get what they want: fresh content, continually updated.
My personal strategy is to announce my site's feeds on a monthly basis. I used to use Rss Announcer but that is no longer updated and is becoming useless. A couple of months ago I bought a copy of Rss Feed Submit. Its main advantage is that it has a large database that IS updated with new sites. On the downside, it does not have the facilty that Rss Announcer had to deal with a list of feeds one after the other. But I found that by opening multiple instances of the program I could announce many feeds at once. The program is fast and bulletproof. For ongoing promotion of blogs I think it is well worth a look.
There is a trial version, I bought the full Rss Feed Submit program within minutes of downloading the trial!
